Throughout my life I have had a steadfast belief in freedom of mind and respect for independent thinking. I have chosen to view things from a different perspective.

I have undertaken research in areas as diverse as plant genetics, evolution and biotechnology and as cutting edge as molecular genetics, cellular biology and molecular neuroscience. An interest in improving the quality of human life has taken me on an exhilarating journey into many areas of human health, from studies on the influenza virus, antibiotic resistance and infectious diseases to understanding the complex cellular and molecular pathways that determine why cells become cancerous, or what leads to neurodegeneration and dementia.

My true passion is the workings of the human mind and in particular, how our mind affects our body and how our memories, perceptions and beliefs, attitudes and past experiences can have such an impact on outcomes. My favourite pastime has always been the study of the elusive subconscious mind and neuroscience has proved to be absolutely indispensable in all the work that I now do at NakedGJ.

I realised many years ago, that if all our amazing scientific knowledge and discovery is to be of any real use to people, it needs to be placed into a context that is meaningful to them and delivered in an accessible way that is free from hype and headline drama. There is a lot more to it than just having the facts, as I came to understand when a scientist friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer. It suddenly dawned on me, that when fear rules, facts are redundant. When you are imprisoned by your negative perceptions and beliefs, no amount of cold scientific facts make a difference to you. This was the point that I realised, that for science to genuinely make a difference in people’s lives, we need a new and revolutionary approach. What started as something to help people with cancer and serious diseases soon evolved into a unique approach, with applications as diverse as social issues and education, to business and living with fame.
